good for anyone - ND or NT

This review is for the 52 Essential Coping Skills for Kids set. The items received are consistent with the product photos and description in look, quality, and function. I found this to be a perfect activity in working with a kiddo with ASD because it talks about different scenarios and offers suggestions for how to behave or cope in them. I wish they were more budget friendly, but think they're otherwise a good purchase.

Good suggestions

I picked this up when I was broken spiritually. I know it’s geared for kids but since I am trying to overcome childhood trauma and did not learn some skills I opted for the kids version.I am glad I did, at the time I could not comprehend much or handle any kind of heavy thinking so these were light and easy to grasp for my adult brain. I pick a card daily review it through out the day and when I am ready for a new skill or a new exercise I pick a new card and reflect on that one for a day or two. I plan on donating to my therapist office soon.

Great cards for a school counseling office or classroom

I ordered 52 Essential Coping Skills for Kids to use at the elementary school where I work. I’m a school counselor and am using this card deck for small group lessons, individual counseling, or just as a card game (with therapeutic conversations). I really like that these cards are research based and are aligned with the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) framework. The cards arrived in a durable metal tin and are categorized by different types of coping skills based on the card suit. The red suits focus on self-awareness and self-management. The black suits focus on social awareness and relationship skills. The cards also come with helpful suggestions for different use and some even have QR codes for videos and assessments. The videos with the Woo Crew (author’s children) are really cute and I plan on showing them to my students who are around the same age. The only negative is that some of the QR codes on the cards are advertising for other cards in the series. Since there is an extra card included in the pack which describe the series, I don’t think there is a need for more advertising on the cards thems.Overall, these cards are a great tool to supplement social emotional learning in the counseling office, classroom, or at home.

For kids and adults

The media could not be loaded. These cards are great for providing ideas of how to think about different ways of coping, thinking and doing things. Comes in a nice tin and looks like a deck of playing cards. Very easy to use and have options for online assessments, videos, and other resources.

Therapist, patient & family approved

Talking about mental health with your kids seems like it should be easy, and it is...with the help of a product like this!I work as a therapist but ordered these more for my own children. Despite living in an environment where mental health is the norm my kids still really enjoyed the activities & discussions on these cards. We've run through 1-2 cards a day over the past week. We've used some of the social cue prompts as something to discuss on the way to school and have used some of the emotion regulation activities at home.I've also used them with teen patients in my own practice to facilitate conversation by having them pick a random card. I've also just used them to play go fish & talked about the cards exchanged. The cards are about the size & quality of a typical playing card. They come in a solid metal tin so they're easy to stick in a bag & take anywhere. They can be used various ways & come with a card with a few suggestions, but because they have the suits from a normal deck of cards you can integrate any card game into a conversation. The suits all have a different theme (explained in the product description). The red suits are self reflection/regulation oriented & black suits are more geared towards social relationships. My kids prefer the activities on the red cards, but we have good conversations related to the black suits when it comes to school. And here's the best review I can give as a therapist. I tend to dislike products like these. I usually find them to be kind of lame & repetitive fluff that have minimal utility in practice. But I really like these! I think they have unique & interesting information & the card format has an element of surprise that makes the process of using them more interesting than thumbing through a book. It's also a good sign that my kids & patients have asked to use them again & aren't rolling their eyes if I get them out!If you're a parent struggling to help your child regulate their moods these will offer ideas & suggestions that will be new, unique & helpful for your whole family. As a therapist most of the information may be familiar to you but they're still a useful tool to keep tucked in your desk or sitting in the fidget basket.

Lots of skill building

Like most cards of this nature, these coping skills for kids cards are a mixed bag. Most of the suggestions are pretty good. A few are a little off. The structure of the different age ranges and strategies is very useful. Any tools that help kids develop crucial skills like coping with common challenges is a good thing. Not every tool will work for every child, having a variety helps.

We're all kids inside

So I know I'm not the marketing consumer for this product as I'm not a child, but aren't we all just little kids inside really? A lot of us have no idea how to handle our emotions or life stress- and to get the building blocks and fundamentals in an easy way, I thought this would be great for myself actually. I'm on this healing Journey, and a lot of trauma and emotions are coming up. These cards are helping me reframe some things and approach Concepts in a completely different way. The cards are easy to read, made from high quality card stock. They're fun so you don't feel like you're doing work even though it is in her work right? They're easy to use and they're appropriately priced. I feel like this is a smart choice for any age.

These are so helpful

Very helpful for my 9 year old daughter. I thought they might be a bit too complicated but she engages with their prompts perfectly. The best thing about this purchase is that she really started to feel validated when she’s upset. I punched holes in the corners and put them on a ring for ease of use.

Some are better than others.

Not all cards are going to be great for every kid. So maybe thumb through them and pick out some favorites before you need them. You never want to try to figure these out after a stressful event is in progress.

Great for therapy

I like using these in my therapy practice with children. First of all, the cards are a thick material making them more durable, and the metal box they come in keeps them from getting wear and tear. They can be used like any other deck of playing cards for games while also having a variety of age-appropriate coping skills to teach and practice. Additionally, this would be a cool gift for a new graduate going into therapy, school counseling, ect. since they are a little more expensive than I would probably buy for myself normally.
