Lucy

Lucy, 10, Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)

How would you explain ADHD to a child?

I have ADHD. Actually, I have combined ADHD. This means that sometimes I can be hyperactive and impulsive but other times I can be inattentive and unfocused.

What would you want the world to know about ADHD?

Sometimes it’s hard to control my behaviors and it’s nice to have people take the time to get to know me. ADHD is not just about kids not wanting to do things or about kids being too hyper, ADHD makes me a very caring and creative person.

What does it feel like to live with ADHD?

Sometimes it’s hard because I can’t control it or turn it off. It can be hard to explain why I am acting a certain way sometimes.

What brings you joy?

My family. Sports– I love soccer, tumbling, gymnastics and always moving! I love reading too. And my dog, Charlie.
